Adaptation

Someone should make a study about intimacy and silence. To her, they were both interconnected: who else could keep you company for long stretches of time in total silence other than your best friend? Without discomfort or awkwardness, silence could so easily dictate the degree of intimacy between two people: strangers can never bear the silence like old friends do. And among other things, this was something she really liked about him. The man could probably speak for eternity if he was given the chance, beat the same subject over and over again, knowing too well how annoying he could get. Hell, sometimes he even did it on purpose. But he was also the intuitive one, the mind reader of unspoken words, and he would always recognize when she needed the silence.

Now, they ate in silence just because she needed it.
